Project status

Academic rapid prototype · Sheridan College · 2026 · concept only · no products, checkout or orders

Project boundary. This is an academic project — not a claim of commissioned, built, tested, or approved work beyond what this page documents. No product was manufactured; checkout is disabled and commercial details are assumptions.

My contribution

Lighting-accessory concept, product sketches, early identity and interface direction, feedback-led revision, writing and creative direction of the HTML prototype.

01 / Design decisions

Lower the stakes enough to begin.

I kept stalling on the full business plan, so the assignment was simple: one afternoon of making. I started with sketches.

02 / Design decisions

Give the idea a product shape and a place to live.

Two lamp-cover directions and a rough product-page sketch gave OpulentLumen an early visual language. The central Orbital concept proposes a decorative layer for a standard light fixture rather than a completely new luminaire.

03 / Design decisions

Use one direct question to clarify the offer.

One question to one peer — 'is this a lamp or a cover?' — revealed that the first image read as a new lamp instead of a removable cover. The second sketch added the cover in context, making the transformation more visible and the proposition easier to explain.

04 / Design decisions

Keep the prototype honest about what does not exist yet.

The responsive HTML demo lets visitors switch visual directions and inspect the concept. Prices, lead time and product language are interface assumptions; checkout is disabled and no manufactured product, safety certification or order system is claimed.

What came out of it

The outcome.

A named lighting concept, two feedback-linked sketches, an early brand palette and a usable web prototype that turns an abstract ambition into a concrete next decision.

What I would develop next

Test attachment, heat, material and electrical-safety constraints with qualified specialists; print low-risk form studies; photograph a real fixture; and replace every commercial assumption before considering sales.

Tools with a purpose.

Procreate

Fast product sketches and page-layout directions used to make the concept discussable.

HTML, CSS and JavaScript

A self-contained interactive product-page prototype with finish and thumbnail states; it does not process orders.

Where AI enters the process.

ChatGPT-assisted coding

Supported implementation of the HTML prototype after Alejandro established the lighting concept, sketches, visual direction and feedback-based revision. The current responsive and accessibility pass was also code-assisted and human-reviewed.
